MAY 4, 2001 No its not the name of a new Tejano singing group, but President Bush this week will deliver this week's radio address not just in English but also in "Mexican," or Spanish as it is more commonly known. In response, Democratic leaders will deliver their response to Bush in Spanish. The Spanish address coincides with Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday which commemorates an 1862 battle in which Mexican and Zapotec forces defeated the French army as part of the war to rid the country of France.
