State redrawing political lines

JUNE 25, 2001

Native Americans are among the many who are paying attention to how the state of Washington redraws its political boundaries.

With the state's Indian population dispered in urban areas and on more than 20 reservations, it can be nearly impossible to draw a district with a significant Native presence. But one situation Native Americans hope to avoid is splitting up reservations into more than one district, as is currently the case with the Puyallup Reservation.
