Despite widespread belief that he is under consideration for the nation's highest court, Al Gonzales denies he is in the running for a position on the bench.

If nominated, he'd be the first Hispanic to be conidered for the Supreme Court. Bush is said to be eager to nominate a Hispanic and as White House counsel, Gonzales would be a perfect choice.

Gonzales has experience on the bench, sitting on the Texas Supreme Court. But his record there is scant, according to court watchers, so they are unsure about how he would rule on issues like abortion or affirmative action.
