Bush pushes latest priorities

TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2001

During a White House speech on Monday, President Bush said he has three priorities in the coming weeks: signing an education reform bill, approving a "reasbonable" patients' bill of rights, and seeing his faith-based initiative move forward.

The House and Senate have each approved an education bill. A joint committee has to resolve any differences before the bill is sent to Bush.

The Senate has approved a patients' bill of rights. Bush, however, wants limits on lawsuits but said yesterday he believes there is a compromise.

Finally, Congress has yet to consider Bush's faith-based initiative, which has seen considerable controversy since he proposed it in January.
