FRIDAY, JULY 13, 2001 Leaders from tribes in Wyoming and Montana presented their legislative priorities before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on Thursday, arguing for more federal funds to address health care, infrastructure, housing, education, and a host of other issues. The Senate and the House have both approved spending bills for the Department of Interior and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Senate is asking for $23.5 million above President Bush's $2.2 billion request for fiscal year 2002, while the House wants $10.3 million more. The difference will be worked out in a joint committee of the two chambers. Fiscal year 2002 starts October 1. Get Senate Testimony:
