MONDAY, JULY 9, 2001 At the group's annual convention on Sunday, the chairman of the board of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People criticized President Bush for his record on race relations. Julian Bond said Secretary of Interior Gale Norton for her past positions on affirmative action. While Attorney General for the state of Colorado, she authored legal opinion declaring most forms of race-based scholarhips unconstitutional. Bond also criticized Attorney General John Ashcroft and Bush's faith-based initiative. The NAACP is holding its convention in New Orleans, Lousiana. Get the Story:
