The Bush administration is considering whether or not to fire Ann Brown, head of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Brown's firing, however, would not promote Mary Sheila Gall to the post of chairwoman. Vice-chair Thomas Moore would run the agency if Brown is asked to leave.

In a party line vote, Senate Commerce Committee last week rejected Gall as chair. Democrats and consumer advocates criticized her record on child safety issues.
