THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2001

White House aides on Wednesday said they had "real and credible information" that the White House and Air Force One, the home and plane of President Bush, were intended targets.

The White House and not the Pentagon was going to be hit, they said. The Secret Service said they received a phone call saying Air Force One was "next" to be attacked.

Bush has faced criticism for not responding as quickly or as strongly initially as local leaders have to the crisis. The aides said the potential threat against his life was the reason for the apparent delay.
