As the nation turns to religion and spirituality in the wake of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, aides to President Bush say they might be able to pass his controversial faith-based initiative.

The House passed a version of the initiative, which seeks to direct federal funds to religious organizations. But it is being held up in the Senate over constitutional concerns.

The bill may now make it through, depending on the provisions it includes. Senator Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) will be writing his own version.
