FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2001 Former Federal Communications commissioner Gloria Tristani on Thursday officially declared her intent to run for U.S. Senate in 2002, putting her up against incumbent Pete Domenici (R) of New Mexico. While at the FCC, Tristani made bridging the digital divide a priority. She left the agency last month. Tristani is the only person so far to challenge Domenici, who -- with the help of President Bush -- has already raised more than $1.5 million for his re-election campaign. Should Tristani lose, New Mexico would lose a powerful senator who sits on a number of high profile legislative panels, including the Budget Committee. Domenici is also a member of the Indian Affairs Committee. Get the Story:
