Three staffers of Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) and Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) were on board a recent flight when federal air marshals subdued the son of a well-known Native author, reports Denver Post bureau chief Bill McAllister in The Beltway Notebook.

Two marshals, one with a gun drawn, subdued Raho N. Ortiz, sone of Acoma Pueblo author Simon Ortiz, because he violated new air safety rules. Since the flight was going to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., no passengers are allowed to stand up within one half-hour of approach.

Ortiz was not charged with a crime and said he was trying to use the restroom at the front of the aircraft.

McAllister also reports that Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.) spent Veterans Day with other bikers on a September 11 tribute trip to New York City.
