TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2001 The Senate Judiciary Committee today will hold a confirmation hearing for Tom Sansonetti, President Bush's pick to head the environmental and natural resources division at the Department of Justice. Sansonetti had been named to the post back in April. His nomination had been held up, however, and didn't reach the Senate until September. As head of the environmental division, Sansonetti would oversee cases affecting the federal government's trust responsibility to tribes, including land claims. He would have also headed up the Cobell v. Norton trust fund lawsuit but the government recently took the environmental division off the case. Sansonetti is currently an attorney with the law firm of Holland and Hart. The firm also produced Interior Solicitor Bill Myers, who has drawn criticism for his handling of the trust fund. The hearing begins at 2 p.m. A real audio is available at CapitolHearings.Org. Listen to the Hearing:
