MONDAY, MARCH 25, 2002

Army Secretary Thomas White made 73 calls to his former colleagues at Enron Corp. since taking office and discussed the failing company's financial health, he has told a House committee.

At least 13 were made during a critical time period in October during which he unloaded his shares as the company was declaring bankruptcy. His actions netted him $12.1 million, considerably more had he waited longer to sell.

Upon entering the Bush administration, White was to divest of his holdings in the company within 90 days. He received an extension until the end of November but completed all of his stock transactions in October.
