Shoshone-Bannock Tribes drop out of Olympics

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2001

The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Idaho have dropped out of the 2002 Winter Olympics because they have not been officially designated as the host tribe.

The tribes had been named the host tribe by the Native American 2002 Foundation, which works with the Olympics. But the Salt Lake Olympic Committee itself did not make the same designation.

All events the tribes had planned, including a reunion of tribal nations, appear to have been canceled as a result.
