A new book about Gladys Tantaquidgeon details the survival of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut through the life of one of its oldest members.

"Medicine Trail: The Life and Lessons of Gladys Tantaquidgeon" is the story of Tantaquidgeon's 101-year life as a matriarch of the tribe. It was written by her great niece, Melissa Jayne Fawcett.

In 1931, Tantaquidgeon opened the oldest Indian-run museum in the country. She also worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a social worker and also for the Indian Arts and Crafts Board, another agency of the Department of Interior.
