Columbus protesters subpoena Denver mayor

NOVEMBER 30, 2000 Lawyers for the 141 protesters arrested during a Columbus Day parade in Denver, Colorado, have subpoenaed Mayor Wellington Webb in hopes of having the city's attorney dismissed from the case. The protesters were arrested for peacefully blocking a parade held by a local Italian-American group. American Indian and Hispanic leaders had come to an agreement with the group not to use Christopher Columbus' name during the parade but the organizers changed their mind. The city of Denver had participated in the agreement with the groups, as did the US Department of Justice. Get the Story:
