FEBRUARY 28, 2001 The paintball gun attacks of three white teenagers on Alaska Natives in Anchorage, Alaska, are drawing national attention as the country waits for authorities to charge the group with a crime. Police Chief Walt Monegan was interviewed on Tuesday for ABC's Good Morning America, for example. Diane Sawyer pointed out that Monegan was the first Alaska Native to hold the police chief's job and asked him if he felt a personal connection to the incidents the teenagers videotaped. Community leaders have expressed outrage at the actions of the teens as well. Police have called it a hate crime but the state has no hate crimes law. Get the Story:
