A very special set of Pequot Letters...

I HATE LANCE JOHNSON
"Trust, once broken, is not easily restored, if ever. Mr. Johnson is right: “Distrust still stands in the way of healing.” The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe earned the towns' distrust by placing its own self-interest over that of the towns'. The tribe traded a few acres of trust land for the trust of its neighbors, and there is no reason to believe that they will not do it again. . ."
Tribe abused towns' trust (Amy E. Willcox. Letter to Editor. The New London Day 3/10)

I HATE TOM TUREEN:
"Tom Tureen, the Mashantucket Pequots' Pygmalion, returned to defend his creation as soon as Jeff Benedict's charges were published one year ago. Mr. Tureen apparently took the allegations far more seriously than the aggregate of elected officials (state and federal). Mr. Tureen is as ubiquitous in the area as skunk cabbage. . . "
No Tureen manipulation needed (Martha Goldman. Letter to Editor. The New London Day 3/10)

I HATE LANCE JOHNSON, PT II:
"My contempt stems from my strong belief that all American citizens are entitled to equal treatment under the law and to suggest that one select group is eligible for special privileges because they have been here, or can claim a fractional blood tie to someone who has been here longer than someone else, is contemptuous. I make no apologies for my contempt. In fact, I am bewildered by Mr. Johnson's acceptance of this elitist concept. . ."
Editor should check facts before registering contempt (Mac Turner. Lettter to Editor. The New London Day 3/11)
