APRIL 2, 2001

The US Civil Rights Commission Alaska advisory committee on Friday said it will hold public hearings on racial discrimination in the state.

The Alaska Federation of Natives has been pushing the Commission to hold hearings in response to the paint-ball attacks of Alaska Natives on the streets of Anchorage. Three White males -- two minors -- videotaped themselves shooting at Natives with the gun.

The adult is being charged with five counts of misdemeanor assault. The teens have been suspended from their high school but authorities are withholding other information on them.
