EDITORIAL: Bush action needed on trust fund
Facebook Twitter Email
APRIL 30, 2001

In an editorial today, the New York Times says President Bush, Secretary of Interior Gale Norton, and Secretary of Treasury Paul O'Neill need to take firm steps to ensure resolution of the government's five-year-old trust fund lawsuit.

The paper says the lack of financial responsibility for the American Indian trust account holders is a "debacle of historic proportions, a violation of a trust relationship established by the federal government in which the Indians themselves had, and still have, no say."
