MAY 17, 2000 President Clinton will address graduates of the US Coast Guard Academy today but is too busy to meet with three local towns to discuss their issues with the Pequot tribes of Connecticut. The towns of North Stonington, Ledyard, and Preston had written to the President, asking him to to meet with them to discuss the pending federal recognition of the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot and the Eastern Pequot tribes. Timothy R. Love, executive director of the New England Coalition for Justice, an advocacy group funded by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, also wrote Clinton, urging him to reject the towns' request.
