Editorial: Change mural not mascot

MAY 23, 2001 In an editorial today, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader says the Washington High School should change a mural in its gymnasium which features Indian heads. The paper says painting over the mural could be a "kind gesture" among the current debate in the South Dakota about Indian-themed mascots. The paper says the school's "Warriors" mascot, which has been targeted for a change, isn't "remotely racist" or doesn't mock Indian culture. Get the Story:
