MAY 3, 2000 South Dakota Governor Bill Janklow on Tuesday criticized the practice of of racial profiling in Charles Mix County. Yankton Sioux residents have been complaning of racial bias and the FBI is investigating their allegations for the Department of Justice. Also on Tuesday, Janklow said he wants a meeting to discuss a recent US Civil Rights Commission report that enumerated racism and poor treatment of the state's Indian population. He earlier said the report was "garbage" and still questions parts of the report he feels are not substantiated. Get the Story:
