Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg in Massachusetts has the longest lake name in the United States and one of the world's longest place names, according to the US Geological Survey.

Wise Owl,chief of the Chaubunagungamaug band of Nipmucks in Massachusetts, said the name means "the fishing place at the boundaries and neutral meeting grounds." The lake was used historically as a gathering point for the Nipmuck, Narragansett, Pequot, and Mohegan tribes of the Northeast.
