JUNE 28, 2000 Yet another group is opposed to Senator Slade Gorton bid (R-Wash) to get re-elected to Congress. This time it is the American Medical Association (AMA). Senator Gorton voted against the medical bill of rights which needed just one vote to pass earlier this legislative term. The bill would give all 161 million Americans with private health insurance the right to sue insurers when harmed by delays or denial of treatment. Gorton faces a challenge from candidate Maria Cantwell for the Senate seat. Native Americans have long opposed Gorton, who is considered anti-sovereignty and anti-Indian.
