EDITORIAL: GOP 'embarrassing'
JULY 14, 2000

In an editorial, "GOP's anti-Indian stand weakens state ticket," The Seattle Times today in calls the recently passed Washington state Republican party resolution against tribal governments "loopy" and "embarrassing."

The editorial criticizes party members for not anticipating reaction to their proposal.

So far, reaction by Democrats, tribal leaders, columnists, and other opinion makers throughout the country has been overwhelmingly negative against the resolution. The only prominent Republican to respond has been Senator Slade Gorton (R-Wash), but no state parties or the national party appear to have issued any comments.
