The Flandreau Santee Sioux Wacipi drew family, dancers, and visitors from as far away as Germany for its fancy dancing, jingle dancing, food, and socializing.

Begun in 1962, the event has grown from just one dance to many and included a visit from Doris Hass Finley, a German citizen who said the powwow "fits the German's image of the romantic aura of the Indian people."

The wacipi is held near the tribe's Royal River Casino in Flandreau.
