Alaska Governor Tony Knowles' Commission on Tolerance begins holding a series of hearings on racism tonight.

Knowles set up the commission in the wake of a widely publicized incident in which three White males videotaped themselves attacking Alaska Natives on the streets of Anchorage with a paint-ball gun. One has since been charged on misdemeanor assault counts while the status of the others is not known since they are juveniles.

The commission is made up of 14 member, including Alaska Natives. The commission will hold a total of hearings and prepare a report for Knowles by November 30 on racism in the state.
