JULY 2, 2001 "When Lincoln Journal Star editors offered me a job of reporting on Native issues three years ago, my first reaction was disbelief, followed by joy, then doubt. The feeling of disbelief surfaced because covering a Native news beat was - and still is - unique to the news industry. The feeling of joy swept over me because I believe the media play a vital role in making our communities better places for people of all colors. Later, doubt crept into my thoughts because I was unsure what it would be like reporting on Native news from a mostly white newsroom, telling stories to a mostly white audience. . ." Get the Story:
