Reno avoids resolution

JULY 24, 2000

There were a couple of things US Attorney General Janet Reno did not do on her recent visit to the Coeur d'Alene Tribe's Julyamsh powwow this past weekend: jingle dance and address the recent Washington state Republican Resolution which called for the termination of "non-republican" governments.

"I stay out of the politics," Reno told The Spokesman Review.

The Spokesman Review was the first newspaper to break the news of the resolution passed last month. The WSRP has since offered an apology and another resolution, but chairman Don Benton blamed the media on the apparent fiasco.

The paper has defended its reporting on the resolution in a recent editorial. The paper says the party's recent clarification doesn't explain anything.
