Editorial: Get Indians to polls

TUESDAY, JULY 24, 2001 In an editorial today, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader calls on politicians not just to reach out to Native American and other voters but to help them get to the polls. The paper says an education effort is needed to increase Native participation in elections. The paper also says voting must be made easier, such as locating polls in reasonable locations, providing Internet voting and possibly telephone voting. Native Americans are 8.25 percent of the South Dakota's population, third in representation behind Alaska and New Mexico. Get the Story:
