JULY 26, 2000

Get ready for the battle of the millenium as your favorite web site goes head-to-head in a nationally televised debate with Jeff Benedict, author of Without Reservation, a controversial book about the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

Last week, Indianz.Com offered to appear on "Pros & Cons," after learning that a representative of the tribe would not be available to appear on the nationally-televised program on the Court TV network.

On Monday, Indianz.Com Editor-in-Chief, Acee Agoyo of San Juan Pueblo, New Mexico, agreed to appear on the show along with Benedict. The program is tentatively set for Thursday, July 27, at 6:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

Speaking from the Cambridge, Massachusetts offices of Noble Savage Media, the technology company behind Indianz.Com, Agoyo said producer Sally Ellyson seemed very excited about the prospects of having him appear on the show.

"I am glad Ellyson has expressed such a great interest in presenting viewpoints other than the ones expressed in Without Reservation," said Agoyo.

But he quickly added that he isn't defending the tribe.

"I don't speak for the tribe," he said. "It's not my right to do so for anyone, much less an Indian nation."

Since the release of Without Reservation in April, the legal research team of Noble Savage Media has closely examined the book's claims. The book resurfaced questions about the tribe's ancestry and the 1983 federal law which granted the tribe federal recognition.

So far, Agoyo would not say what he intends to present on the program. The program has a half-hour time slot but the segment dedicated to Agoyo and Benedict will most likely run about 10 minutes, possibly less.

"Green Party Vice-Presidential candidate Winona LaDuke had four minutes to speak to the nation during Earth Day 2000," said Agoyo. "I guess I should feel lucky to have a bit more time to address the issues."
