Chairwoman to speak at convention

AUGUST 11, 2000 Sue C Shaffer, chairwoman of the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe in Oregon, will address the Native American House caucus at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday. Shaffer has served as a mentor to Rep. Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island on Indian issues. Kennedy is the co-founder of the Native American caucus. Althought not a delegate, she will be joined by 70 Native American delegates at next week's convention. Two of the delegates are from Oregon. The convention will take place August 14-17 in Los Angeles, California. Get the Story:
