Towns complain about casino
SEPTEMBER 15, 2000

At a forum held in Shelton on Thursday, leaders from three Connecticut towns bordering the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation complained of the problems they have encountered since the tribe opened its casino.

Increased traffic, lower property values, prostitution, and porn houses are the result of a casino, leaders from North Stonington, Ledyard, and Preston told others.

The towns are waiting to hear on a lawsuit filed against the Department of Interior over its decision to take 165 acres of land into trust for the tribe. The towns are opposed to expanding the tribe's reservation.
