SEPTEMBER 27, 2000

The family who successfully challenged the Aryan Nations of Idaho in a civil rights lawsuit received a human rights award from the Northwest Coalition for Human Dignity on Tuesday.

The Keenan family was attacked by Aryan Nations guards in 1998. When asked by a guard if they were Native American, Victoria Keenan said she wasn't, in order to protect her and her son.

The founder of the Aryan Nations, Richard Butler, said he will turn over his compound in Hayden Lake, over to the family. He also will stop using the Aryan Nations name.
