Yellow Bird: Gettin' old
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2001

"At lunch Monday, a friend and I were lamenting the curse of getting "old." Why today? Because it took us 15 minutes to cross from the parking lot to the local restaurant -- the melting ice made walking treacherous. Falling, if you remember that commercial, might mean you can't get up. We knew, too, we had to make the same journey back to the car.

"Gee whiz, everything seems to be in need of repair," my friend said, as she held the menu at arms length and squinted. All those good tasting, juicy, fatty things don't always sit well either. Yes, I told her. Remember when you could order a pizza for the family and call it supper? Now just the thought of a pizza gives me heartburn. . ."
