Yellow Bird: Buffalo spirit returning

MONDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2001 "For as far as the eye could see, herds and herds of huge beasts moved almost as one across the prairie, like reddish brown insects on a giant anthill. That is how some of the early explorers and settlers described the magnificent buffalo on the Plains and in North Dakota. Fast forward 10 or 20 years, to a black and white photo of a man standing atop a pile of sun-bleached bones -- piled higher than the boxcar in the background of the photo. In the midst of that pile is a skull -- with horns out stretched like arms -- looking at the world from deep, dark orbs -- a spirit from the another world. . ." Get the Story:
