The Clatsop County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday night to allow Winifred Basch, a 99-year-old member of the Chinook Tribe of Washington, to be put to rest in the cemetery where her ancestors are buried.

Rejecting a recommendation made by a county official who said Pioneer Cemetery shouldn't accept any more burials, the board granted an exception to Basch. Basch's family members are buried there but the county stopped accepting new plots in 1968.

The Chinook Tribe received final federal recognition in January but the Bush administration is reviewing it.
