Governor vetoes Hopi radio funds

MAY 10, 2001 Arizona Governor Jane Hull on Tuesday vetoed a bill to give the fledgling Hopi radio station KUYI $105,000 in funds. The bill was one of several lawmakers helped push through the Legislature with the formation of the House's first Native American Affairs Committee. The radio station went on the air on December 20. It provides broadcasts in English and in Hopi. Hull signed a bill to provide $2 million over two years for senior citizens' centers, including $570,000 for centers on the Hopi Reservation in northern Arizona. Related Stories:
