Alert sounded on Internet worm

An Internet worm may attack certain web sites tonight, causing slowdowns in traffic and other Internet pileups, federal officials and business leaders said on Monday.

Called "Code Red," the worm can attack web sites running Microsoft products. The worm already infected personal computers during an outbreak in July.

Web site administrators can download patches for their web servers via the Microsoft web site.

Computer users who run Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME system are not affected.
