N.M. leads in phone divide

MONDAY, AUGUST 6, 2001 According to a Census Bureau survey of homes in 12 New Mexico counties, the state leads the nation in the number of households without telephone service. The percentage of homes without phones was 7.31 percent, according to the American Community Survey. Following Alaska, New Mexico had the second highest number of homes without plumbing facilities. Alaska has the highest percentage of American Indians and Alaska Natives in the country. New Mexico is ranked second. Get the Story:
