The Chief Washakie Sculpture Committee of Riverton, Wyoming, is overseeing a number of projects honoring the famous Shoshone leader.

Sculptor Dave McGary, who created statues of Washakie that are on display at the state capitol and in Washington, DC, at the National Statuary Hall, will be creating a new bronze. It will be unveiled this fall at the University of Wyoming, along with a historical a historical exhibition on Washakie.

The Committee is also raising money to create a $500,000 endowment at the school. It will be used for scholarships.

Wyoming Public Television are also beginning work on a documentary about the life of Washakie. He signed the 1868 Fort Bridger Treaty which created the 3 million-acre Wind River Reservation, home to the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes.
