Sioux tribe school to hold games again

MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 2002 The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota and a local school have agreed to hold basketball games again. The games had been canceled for the remainder of this school year after a racially-charged incident in which two teens from Miller allegedly shot at a group of girls from the tribe. The girls had just finished a basketball game at the Miller gymnasium, a game which did not involve the Miller team. The school nonetheless canceled games due to the ensuing climate. But after a three-month reconciliation and meeting process among tribal, school and community leaders, they decided to reinstate the games. Tribal chairwoman Roxanne Sazue hopes their work can be a model for the rest of the state. Get the Story:
