WEDNESDAY, MAY 1, 2002 A document purporting to tie a 19th century massacre to Mormon Church leader Brigham Young contained telltale signs of forgery, a forensic expert said this week. William Flynn presented his findings at a meeting of the Southwestern Association of Forensic Document Examiners. He said the forger used materials not available during the time the document was alleged to have been written. Flynn also said the handwriting did not match its reported author, John D. Lee. Lee was executed for participating in the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre attributed to tensions between tribes, settlers and the federal government. Get the Story:
