Nuclear aircraft safety report released

OCTOBER 17, 2000 Private Fuel Storage (PFS), the company proposing to store nuclear waste on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation in Utah, released its own aircraft safety report on Monday, and military officials agree that an accident at the site is highly unlikely. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission already issued a report on the proposed site. The NRC said it would be safe. Governor Mike Leavitt, who opposes the plan, earlier said the site would restrict Air Force missions and hurt the economy of the area. But Air Force officials agree with calculations made by PFS which show that accidents involving aircraft are not likely. Three retired Air Force officers also consult for PFS. Get the Story:
