A proposal to store nuclear waste on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation in Utah drew heated debate on Monday before the Transportation and Environment Quality Committee of the state legislature.

Tribal Chairman Leon Bear and Scott Northard, a spokesman for Private Fuel Storage (PFS), the consortium of private utilities seeking to store the waste, presented their case to lawmakers. But it didn't appear to have much effect on them as they later voted to approve $300,000 to help fund the state's legal fight against the plan. A total of $1.6 million is being sought by the state.
