APRIL 26, 2001

Former Interior Secretary and former Alaska Governor Wally Hickel was in Washington, DC, this week to push for opening up the "frozen desert that's white" to oil and gas development.

But why stop there, he wondered. Drill the entire Arctic, says he!

Hickel was one of several participants in a think-tank meeting one environmentalist described as filled with the same "old tired arguments I've heard for 30 years."
