JUNE 11, 2001

Hoping to attract the attention of a Kansas Congressman, the Kickapoo Tribe has begun a public relations effort for a water project.

The tribe last summer suffered from a drought. The Pikitanoi Water Project is proposed as a long-term solution to future water woes.

Chairwoman Nancy Bear is working with 32 cities and rural water districts to promote the project. She hopes Representative Jim Ryun (R-Kan.) will request money to fund it.
