Vice President Dick Cheney has not been cooperating fully with a General Accounting Office investigation into the secret task force meetings he held to develop the President's national energy policy.

In a June 1 letter, the GAO asked for information about people with whom the task force consulted about the policy, noting that information Cheney's office had provided so far has been inadequate. The letter also asked for the nature of the meetings the task force held and those in attendance.

But in a June 7 letter, David S. Addington, Cheney's counsel, challenged the right of the GAO to conduct an investigation.

The probe was requested by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the House Government Reform Committee and Rep. John D. Dingell (Mich.), the ranking Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
