At a public hearing in New Mexico, Zuni Pueblo Governor Malcolm Bowekaty said his tribe will file a lawsuit if the state approves a permit for a coal mine near a sacred lake.

Hydrologists hired by the tribe and for the Bureau of Indian Affairs say the 18,000-acre mine will disrupt the lake. Salt River Project, an Arizona company behind the mine, claims otherwise.

The company wants to mine the coal for consumers in Phoenix.
